To install a DNG preset, add the supplied DNG photograph to Lightroom, open it and use Create Preset to save its editing settings. Name the preset, choose a group, and apply it to your own photograph. Download the actual DNG file first, rather than saving a screenshot or a preview image.
Before you start
Keep the original purchase download and any instructions together in a folder you can find again. If the download is a ZIP archive, extract it first. Check that the file name ends in .dng; a JPG product cover is not the preset file.
A DNG is an image file that can carry the settings used to create a look. It becomes a reusable preset when those settings are saved in Lightroom. An XMP preset follows a different import workflow. Do not rename one extension to another: that does not convert the file.
DNG installation on iPhone and Android
- In Lightroom, open the Lightroom tab and choose Add photos. Locate the downloaded DNG on your device and add it.
- Open the imported image from All Photos.
- Open the options menu and choose Create Preset.
- Enter a clear name, such as the product name, and select User Presets or create a group called KARIROOM.
- Review which adjustment groups will be saved, following the instructions supplied with the product. Save the preset.
Button placement can vary with the app version and device. A DNG preview can show a loading error before import; that alone does not establish that the preset is broken. Check the file and try importing it into Lightroom before judging the download.
What if my download contains XMP instead?
Use the preset import command rather than adding an XMP as a photograph. In Lightroom on mobile, open a photo, go to Presets, open the options menu and choose Import Presets; on iOS, the command is reached through the Yours area. Select the extracted preset file. Menu labels may vary with your app version.
Your product download determines which method to use. The presence of this guide does not mean that every KARIROOM product contains every preset format.
Apply the preset to your own photograph
Open a photograph, find the group where you saved the preset and select it. Then check exposure, skin and the brightest parts of the frame. A look created in warm daylight can need a different white balance when used indoors.
For your first test, choose a photograph with reasonably even light and familiar colours. A heavily underexposed party image is a difficult way to judge any new editing tool. Keep an unedited reference so you can compare deliberately instead of adjusting from memory.
Common problems and what to check
I cannot find the download
Check your device's Files or Downloads location and the account used for the purchase. A cloud preview is not necessarily a local copy. Download the original file before opening the Lightroom import picker.
I imported the image, but no preset appeared
Adding the DNG to your photo library and saving its adjustments as a preset are separate steps. Open the DNG and complete Create Preset. Then look in the group you selected, not only in Lightroom's built-in categories.
The result looks too warm or too dark
Installation may be completely correct. Your original photograph has different light and exposure from the reference image. Adjust those first. Our preset selection guide explains what to compare.
Should I save every adjustment?
Follow the creator's instructions for that preset. Image-specific cropping or masks may not suit a new photograph, while a deliberate tone curve may be central to the look. If you experiment, save a second version with a different name so the original remains easy to identify.
