What does TFP mean?
TFP (Time for Print) is a form of cooperation between a model and a photographer, in which both parties work for free. Instead of monetary remuneration, the model receives finished images for his portfolio, and the photographer uses the photographs in his projects. This format is often used for mutual exchange of experience, portfolio building and creative collaborations, especially in the early stages of a career.
When collaborating on a TFP (Time for Print) basis, there is often the question of covering the costs of organizing the shoot, such as studio rental, makeup artist, hair stylist, and styling. Depending on the arrangement, costs can be distributed in different ways:
Cost sharing:
In some cases, costs are shared between the model, photographer and other people involved in the session (e.g., makeup artist, stylist).
Coverage of costs by one party:
Sometimes one party covers all the costs. For example, if the photographer organizes the session, he or she may take on the fees for the studio and the services of professionals.
External sponsors or partners:
Sometimes the session involves sponsors or companies that provide outfits, accessories or services in exchange for promotion.
Minimizing costs:
When budgets are tight, participants can reduce expenses by organizing an outdoor session without studio rentals and with minimal preparation.
It is important to clearly establish the terms before the session to avoid misunderstandings.
