A model release records a person's permission to use their appearance in photographs. A commercial release can include advertising, publication and licensing to stock libraries and other customers. It is different from a TFP agreement and does not transfer copyright the model does not own.

What this commercial model release covers

  • One adult model and clearly identified photographs from a specified production.
  • Worldwide commercial publication, advertising and direct or stock-library licensing.
  • Sublicensing to agencies and customers, plus agreed editing and composite uses.
  • The agreed payment or other value, duration, restrictions and any additional royalty arrangement.
  • Signatures, an optional witness section and a privacy-information worksheet.

Download: a free six-page English PDF with a completion guide. Print it or complete it in a suitable PDF editor. It is not an interactive form or an electronic-signature service. The photograph above is an illustrative mockup, not a preview of every clause.

Can a photographer sell photographs with this release?

The template expressly provides for commercial licensing of the identified images through stock libraries and directly to customers, within the completed terms. That permission does not establish copyright ownership or clear third-party artwork, property, trademarks or other people. The photographer must also have those rights where required.

No form can guarantee that every use is lawful everywhere. This template preserves mandatory rights and excludes unlawful, defamatory, pornographic and misleading sensitive uses. Generative-AI training, biometric identification and digital replicas require a separate specific arrangement; they are not hidden inside this release.

Model release, TFP agreement or copyright assignment?

Model release: permission concerning the person

It defines commercial use of the model's depicted appearance, who can receive licences and the agreed conditions. This is the document offered on this page.

TFP agreement: the collaboration and photo delivery

It records contributions, expenses, the promised photographs and deadlines. Use the separate English TFP contract template when those collaboration terms are needed. A portfolio collaboration is not automatic permission to sell images through stock agencies.

Copyright assignment: rights held by a copyright owner

Being photographed does not by itself make a model the copyright owner of the photographs. Copyright ownership and any assignment must be assessed separately. Calling a model release a transfer of all copyright would confuse these distinct rights.

How to prepare the release

  1. Identify the adult model, photographer, production dates and covered image files.
  2. Explain stock licensing and possible third-party commercial uses before the model signs.
  3. Complete consideration, duration, exclusions, any royalties and the relevant jurisdiction.
  4. Supply accurate privacy information and check the intended agency's current requirements.
  5. Resolve changes, sign the final terms and keep complete copies securely.

Questions before commercial publication

Is this an official Adobe Stock or Shutterstock release?

No. This is an original KARIROOM template, not an agency form or an approved substitute. Platforms can require their own wording, signatures, witness, reference image, dates and upload format. Check the receiving platform before the shoot and before submitting.

Does worldwide permission mean every use is allowed?

No. Worldwide describes geographical scope, not an exemption from local law, restrictions in the signed release or other people's rights. A stock platform's downstream terms must also match what the model actually permitted.

Is permission always irrevocable?

Not in every legal context. The commercial grant is intended to continue for its agreed term, but mandatory rights remain. Where personal-data processing relies on consent, applicable withdrawal rights are separate from the image-use terms.

Can I use it for children, video or AI-generated replicas?

No. This version is for adult still-photography productions. Minors, voice, video, employment, sensitive productions and digital replicas need separately reviewed terms.

Has a lawyer approved this template for my country?

No. It is general drafting material, not individual legal advice or a guarantee of enforceability. Obtain qualified local review for the parties, jurisdictions and distribution you plan.
